In April 2021, we received a commission from an insurance company to escort a British patient back home after a car accident.
The patient, a 68-year-old English teacher in Yangzhou, China, suffered a massive cerebral infarction earlier this year, resulting in left-side paralysis and mobility issues. Unfortunately, he was also involved in a car accident that caused multiple fractures, leaving him unable to care for himself. Due to the pandemic, he could not return home, and his emotional state deteriorated under the hopeless circumstances. Both the patient’s daughter and the Yangzhou Education Bureau requested his prompt return.
Upon receiving the request, our doctor immediately went to Yangzhou Rehabilitation Hospital to visit the patient, assess his health condition, comfort him, and prepare the necessary medical equipment and medications. That same day, they took a special vehicle to Shanghai Pudong Airport, ready to board a flight to London via Frankfurt in the early morning.
However, we received notice that the originally scheduled flight was canceled. Our operations department promptly activated an emergency response, actively communicating with airlines to arrange an alternative route with a different airline for the same day. We successfully coordinated another flight that connected through Paris, allowing the accompanying doctor and patient to depart smoothly.
At that time, the COVID-19 pandemic was at its peak globally, and countries frequently changed their epidemic prevention policies. By the time the accompanying doctor safely delivered the patient to London, the UK’s policy required a 28-day stay before being allowed to leave. However, due to limited funds, our accompanying doctor could not undergo quarantine in the UK. The patient’s family assisted us in applying for humanitarian aid from the embassy, and we finally received special permission at the last moment before boarding, obtaining the green code to return home.
