Background
On December 15, 2023, a client was rushed to the hospital due to weakness in the left limbs and was diagnosed with a stroke. After treatment, although the patient’s condition stabilized, mobility issues persisted. Therefore, the insurance company responsible for the client contacted us on December 28, requesting assistance to transfer the client from Yekaterinburg, Russia, back to Luoyang, China.
Repatriation Plan
In response to this request, we quickly developed two transfer plans:
- The first plan involved transferring via Dubai to Beijing, with the entire journey in business class, and the segment from Beijing to Luoyang in high-speed train business class.
- The second plan involved transferring via Moscow to Beijing, initially planned with the first segment in economy class and the second in business class. However, through coordination with our ticket agent, both segments were upgraded to business class, with the Beijing to Luoyang segment also in high-speed train business class. After communicating with the insurance company, the second plan was immediately confirmed and executed. Our accompanying personnel were set to depart for Yekaterinburg on December 30 and accompany the client back to China on January 1. Remarkably, less than two days had passed from receiving the insurance company’s request to our departure for Russia, during which we had developed a complete transfer plan and prepared for the operation.
Implementation Details
To ensure the smooth execution of the transfer plan, our primary challenge was that, due to sanctions from Europe and the United States, international credit cards could not be used for payments within Russia for hotels, transportation, and other expenses. However, through various efforts, we successfully booked a hotel for the accompanying personnel and found a local Chinese tour guide to arrange airport pickup services. The tour guide also served as a translator, assisting with communication and providing crucial support for the transfer operation.Additionally, we requested wheelchair service to the aircraft door from the airline to ensure the client could board conveniently. Upon the client’s arrival in Beijing, we arranged high-speed train business class from Beijing to Luoyang and also requested wheelchair assistance from the high-speed train department. We arranged business car pickups in both Beijing and Luoyang to ensure a smooth and comfortable transfer process for the client.
